The right solution requires the right training. The Digestive Health Professional series of seminars teaches a system of techniques to determine the hidden causes of patient symptoms, particularly in unresolved health problems. The material taught is the work of Dr. Howard F. Loomis, Jr. Backed by many years of clinical experience, he has brought the theoretical food enzyme work of Edward Howell, MD, into the treatment room. Successful completion of this series of seminars confers upon the health care practitioner a certificate of completion as a Digestive Health Professional.

One must complete all four sessions to earn the certificate of completion.

Seminar One: Clinical Judgment in Diet, Digestion, Bowel Elimination, and Autointoxication

Prerequisites:
- Licensed healthcare practitioner by your state
- If not licensed by your state, you are required to attend our two online courses Introduction to Food Enzyme Nutrition, containing Essential Understanding of Basic Nutrition and Enzymes: The 2nd Factor in Nutrition, before continuing to Seminar One.
Why do some non-traumatic cases respond quickly to treatment while others do not? This seminar is designed to give you the knowledge you need to recognize possible hidden causes in those problem cases that do not seem to respond. Without adding any new equipment to your office or increasing your office space or personnel, the Loomis System® will teach you to use the knowledge you already have to immediately solve difficult cases. Learn to recognize the physical and laboratory signs of stressed organ systems that are producing muscle contraction and physical/structural dysfunction patterns that are not resolved by drug therapy, manipulation, physical therapy, or energetically based therapies.
This seminar includes a logical and sequential review of the physiology and biochemistry of disease prevention made fundamentally understandable. You will learn the real facts and how to use the Loomis System® for better patient results. The philosophy behind the Loomis System® is based on the vital premise that the body possesses an innate intelligence to heal and maintain itself - given the proper amounts of air, water, nutrients, and exercise. It is our goal as practitioners of the healing arts to identify those organs struggling to do their part toward maintaining homeostasis. This seminar includes information on the biochemistry and use of food enzymes - protease, lipase, amylase, cellulase, and others- to enable the body to maintain homeostasis properly. The use of a case history and dietary analysis form will be taught.

Seminar Two: Clinical Judgment in Absorption, Immune System, Autonomic Nervous System, and Endocrine System
Prerequisites: Completion of Seminar One

Stress Evaluation and Related Nutritional Syndromes
Recognition of specific enzyme deficiencies, related nutritional syndromes, and locating signs of stress are vital to helping your patients. You will be able to follow the development of food enzyme deficiencies beginning with the symptoms of indigestion. We will chart deviations from homeostasis and correlate these deviations with specific nutritional recommendations. This seminar will review diet, digestion, and bowel elimination taught in Seminar One and go on to teach absorption, the autonomic nervous system, the immune system, and the endocrine system. Proper diet and digestion are integral to the functioning of these three systems.
24-hour Urinalysis
Analyzing urine for diagnostic purposes has been practiced for centuries and represents one of the oldest laboratory procedures used for diagnosis. Urine composition reflects a patient's ability to maintain nutritional and metabolic homeostasis. A 24-hour urinalysis is more comprehensive than the random sample taken in the doctor's office because a 24-hour sample reveals how the body handles dietary intake throughout the entire day and night - not just a few hours. The interpretation of the 24-hour urinalysis allows you, as the practitioner, to objectively determine dietary stress and digestive problems.
Practicum and Final Examination
This seminar provides a thorough review emphasizing case management and how to develop a logical and systematic program for patients based on findings from each section of the program, specifically the patient's history, physical examination, and laboratory tests. You will be able to reveal what stressors are affecting the patient, what the patient has a difficult time digesting, what organs are nutritionally stressed, what the body is having a hard time detoxifying and eliminating, and what dietary and lifestyle changes are necessary.

The conclusion of this seminar is a two-part, open-book examination on Sunday designed to demonstrate the student's competency in the material that has been learned. Part One is a fill-in-the-blank, true/false exam. Part Two is a patient analysis for two provided cases. After successfully passing the exam, the student will graduate from the Food Enzyme Institute and will be designated a diploma as a Digestive Health Professional.
