Nutrition and the Gut-Brain Connection:

This 1-hour education program is approved by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR), as a Self-Study program. (NO CE CREDITS FOR DCs) It is designed for Registered Dietitians and other nutrition and health professionals who want a better understanding of the gastrointestinal microbiome and the gut-brain connection. This course is taught by Dr. Sasha Hope, DDCN. She is an Assistant Professor in the Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance and Applied Nutrition and Dietetics programs at Logan University. Dr. Hope has authored several publications in her area of expertise and owns a private practice in Colorado where she focuses on functional medicine with evidence-based scientifically sound information. In this course you will evaluate the role of nutrition related to gut microbiome changes associated with various behaviors, including mood conditions, neurological conditions, and eating disorders. You will also identify clinical ways to assess nutritional status in patients with dysbiosis and behavioral changes. Dr. Hope will help translate research-based nutrition and health information into clinical care.
Dr. Sasha Hope starts the program with an introduction, stating of objectives, and discussion of each area. She also manages the 3 case studies to apply the information to real case situations and shares the interventions and follow-up. The lecture portion of the program is 32 minutes in length, with five quiz questions imbedded within the program to check for understanding along the way. The program should take about 60-90 minutes to complete. And is followed by a post quiz, and critical thinking tool.
