Mindful Meals


This web-based Self-study program is approved by the Commission on Dietetics Registration (CDR) for 8 hours continuing education units (CEU) .
For the Doctor of Chiropractic, this course counts for 7 hours of CE Credit. 
 
Our guide and author is Dr. Theresa DeLorenzo. She is currently the Program Director at Logan University in the Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance and the Master of Science in Applied Nutrition and Dietetics programs. She is also a 200-hour trained yoga instructor and currently teaches online yoga and power yoga as well as providing yoga therapy to her clients. This 7 Module series will remind you how to eat mindfully. You will practice listening to what your body needs, learn to honor your cravings, and identifying how much you should eat and when you should eat. This program is designed for Registered Dietitians and other health professionals to learn how to mindfully eat, and practice this first, so they can guide their clients as well.

Brief Bio : Dr. Theresa DeLorenzo is the Program Director for the Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance and serves as the team dietitian for USA Para Powerlifting at Logan. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics in 2007. She then received her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2007 and her Doctorate of Clinical Nutrition in 2013. Dr. DeLorenzo is a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration and owns a sports nutrition practice, Nutrition for Optimal Performance. She also spent 12 years in the clinical setting working in the neonatal intensive care unit. In 2020, Dr. DeLorenzo received her 200-hour yoga teaching certification and is now obtaining a yoga therapy certification to work with athletes and those looking to reduce anxiety or lose weight. She has been practicing yoga for 12 years and is a certified Aerobics Instructor with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and an avid athlete, having ran two marathons and a 200-mile relay race across Tuscany.

  4.             Yoga- chakra 2; Sacral Chakra (hip openers, vinyasa, yin- relationship to food and how it parallels all others relationships in one life)

  2.             Assignment 4- Think about the cravings you identified last week and figure out why these might exist based on what you now know about cravings

  4.             Chakra 4- Heart Chakra (how one uses food to deal with emotions; letting go of rules- vinyasa, yin, back bends)

  4.             Chakra 5- Throat Chakra (communication and creative expression- vinyasa, power, neck and throat poses)

Chakra  6: How to employ mindful meals- Expected completion time 1 hour
  1.             Go through module 6 PowerPoint; case study #6
  2.             Assignment 6- Eat a meal mindfully using all your senses and journal about what you observed.
  3.             Listen to a podcast not assigned that calls your name (Intuitive Fueling, Beating Cancer one Nutrient at a Time or the Nutrition Performance Connection)
  4.             Chakra 6- Brow chakra (intuition, visualization, creating a sacred space- yin, inversions, Drishti)

Chakra 7: When hormones get in the way during PMS and menopause- Expected completion time 1 hour
  1.             Go through module 7 PowerPoint: case study #7
  2.             Journal about how your approach to eating has changed as you have gone through these modules
  3.             Listen to Podcast: Episode Eight - Why So Much Yoga
  4.             Assignment #7- Crown Chakra (spiritual connection, self-knowledge and understanding-yin, inversions)
THE FOLLOWING TWO MODULES, CDR Critical Evaluation Form and Certificate of Completion, are only for those taking this course for CEU as a Registered Dietician or Nutrition Professional.  Doctors of Chiropractic do not need to complete the two modules. Click on "my account" on the top right corner to print your CE credit/Attendance Verification.
